Summer research at Des Moines University: microbiology, pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry and physical therapy

Des Moines University has an Undergraduate Summer Research Program where students work with faculty researchers for an eight-week period on projects in microbiology, pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry and physical therapy.  The students receive a stipend of $10/hr.

Neuroscience research at Rutgers University, NJ

A 10 week summer research program is available for outstanding undergraduates from New Jersey who have a strong interest in a basic research experience with a focus on neuroscience. Students perform independent research projects in laboratories of the faculty on the Busch campus of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University, located in central New Jersey. Areas of research include molecular and cellular aspects of neuronal and glial differentiation, pattern formation, endocrine and trophic functions, synaptic function and plasticity and gene diversity and regulation in the nervous system. Model systems in drosophila, c. elegans and vertebrate species are used.

American Society for Microbiology undergrad research

ASM supports undergraduate researchers to work with ASM faculty members.
The program requires a joint application from both the student and a faculty mentor. The faculty mentor must be an ASM member and willing to serve as the applicant's mentor for the duration of the research experience. Summer research at Sanford Children's Health Research Center (South Dakota)

The Sanford Program for Undergraduate Research provides an opportunity for undergraduates to participate in laboratory research, with the hopes of recruiting talented individuals into careers in biological research. Developed in partnership with Augustana College, this ten week program allows students to apply their classroom knowledge by working in a laboratory under the supervision of a Sanford Research principal investigator, with guidance from post-docs and graduate students, and oversight from the program coordinator.

Biostatistics summer research at Emory University

The Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics (SIBS ) is an innovative program for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in statistics, mathematics or science, and who would like to learn about the field of biostatistics. Over the course of approximately six weeks, students will engage in a comprehensive program of coursework, field experiences, hands-on data collection and analysis activities, and interactions with researchers and scientists in the fields of medicine and public health. Students will also learn about graduate schooland career opportunities in biostatistics.

This program targets pre-PhD students interested in biomedical research.

Summer research in Germany (RISE Program)


RISE is a summer internship program for undergraduate students from the United States, Canada and the UK in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 1.5 to 3 months during the summer. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. The working language will be English. All scholarship holders receive stipends from the DAAD to help cover living expenses, while partner universities and research institutes provide housing assistance.

Undergraduate summer research: information technology at U. Illinois Urbana-Champaigne

The Information Trust Institute (ITI), a national leader in combining research and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems, invites undergraduates to apply for Undergraduate Research Internship awards for Summer 2010. Selected students will be supervised by ITI researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who are leading experts in a number of information trust, information assurance, and cyber security research areas. 
Interns will work for 40 hours a week, including attendance at two weekly seminars. One of the weekly seminars will be a technical presentation from a University of Illinois faculty member; the other will be a presentation on ethics in the responsible conduct of information technology research and development. Other enrichment events will include sessions on preparing for graduate study and pursuing careers in engineering and computing. At the conclusion of the internship, each intern will present the summer's work at a poster session and write a technical paper describing his or her research accomplishments.
All interns will receive stipends and housing.
