SURE activities

SURE is about to enter its 8th week.

So far, our participants have shared lunch with eight faculty hosts: Drs. Judy Fridovich-Keil (Human Genetics), Rick Kahn (Biochemistry), Nicole Gerardo (Biology), Gary Bassell (Cell Biology), Mark Mulligan (Infectious Diseases), Tamara Caspary (Human Genetics), Heather Kimmel (Neuroscience), and Eric Weeks (Physics), with lunches coming up with Drs. Roy Sutliff (Pulmonary Medicine), Carlos Del Rio (Infectious Diseases) and David Pallas (Biochemistry).

Our fellows have met with graduate recruiters from several Emory units [Kathy Smith, Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Dr. Connie Roth (Physics); Dr. Bill Kelly (Biology); and Dr. Stefan Lutz (Chemistry)] and conversed with PhD candidates Sharon Soucek (Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology), Karen Murray (Neuroscience, former SURE fellow), Brian Clark (Molecular and Systems Pharmacology), Laura Mariani (Neuroscience), Umay Suanda (Psychology), and Jill Harley (Molecular and Systems Pharmacology).

It says something about Emory's graduate programs that over 50 graduate students volunteered to meet with SURE fellows and assist with our program activities! Next week, graduate students will share advise and tips on creating and presenting effective research posters and today, three MD/PhD program students (Nealan Laxpati, Keli Kolegraff and John Rolston) hosted an information session on MD/PhD programs. Also coming up is a GRE strategy session, hosted by the Princeton Review.

And in a few weeks, over a dozen graduate students will offer feedback and judge research posters at the SURE poster symposium (July 30, 9:30-11:30am and 12:30-2:30pm at the Coca Cola Commons, Dobbs University Center).
